Mythos-Class: A Tier Above Opus

By Satwik ยท July 1, 2026

Anthropic's June 2026 releases introduced a new capability tier it calls Mythos-class, positioned above the Opus line. Fable 5 and Mythos 5 are the first two members, and per Anthropic they reach state of the art on nearly all tested benchmarks, with the lead widening on longer and more complex tasks.

The capability claims are concrete enough to be worth recording. Stripe reported Fable 5 compressed months of engineering into days, completing a fifty-million-line codebase migration in a single day. On vision, the model rebuilt web-app source from screenshots and finished a Pokemon game from raw frames alone. In life sciences, the Mythos variant produced viable drug candidates for nine of fourteen protein targets and biology hypotheses that researchers preferred around eighty percent of the time.

For a security lab the takeaway is not the leaderboard. It is that a single generally available model now performs autonomous, long-horizon work across software, vision, and science. Capability that broad and that agentic is, by definition, dual use, and the governance around it becomes the story. The tier name is apt: this is a step change, not an increment.
